Squadron Christmas Party

Each year every squadron, or mostly every squadron, hosts a Christmas Party for the Airmen.  I like to go.  It gives Mike and I a date night, as well as allows us to socialize with the other people who work in the same field.  I get to know other spouses.

They usually put together a planning committee and Mike volunteered to help out.  He got assigned to figure out dessert, which is usually really expensive if you order it through whatever restaurant or place the party is at.  At first, the other people who were giving input wanted to make it like a dessert potluck, saying that the Christmas holiday season calls for pie or other special to the season treats.  Mike thought they were all crazy, and he did not think he would get many volunteers.  He was right.  Who, after all, would want to be baking for a catered party?  Anyhow, I was his backup, as I have made the cake for the squadron party for the last two years.  This was, by far, the easiest year yet, despite how often I felt my huge belly was in the way.  Max was a helper, smashing Oreos with my girly hammer for the peppermint cookies 'n cream filling in the cake layers.

I made this cake and one medium side cake in order to have enough pieces to feed everyone.  Some chocolate, some white, and some marbled.  I think it went over well.  The people at my table seemed to think it was pretty good:)  Myself and Mike included.  I wanted to keep the decorations really simple and not have to do a lot of piping.  I found the beads and the star ornament at Target.  Good deal!

We had a nice time visiting with the people at our table.  And then we were able to get a quick picture in front of the Christmas tree before leaving.  I suppose it does nook a little like the tree is growing out of my head, but oh well.

My friend Sonia kept the boys overnight for us, their first sleepover in Hawaii with their friends Nathaniel and Alexa.  They were super excited about it and I think they wanted us to get to the party more than we did.  I am so glad to have such a friend, who loves my kids and is so willing to help.  We made it a trade, and Mike and I kept Nathaniel and Alexa while Sonia and her husband went to their squadron party.  Fun times!
