We have great friends that came to Hawaii from the Azores about a month before we did. Sonia is my friend and she was the first person to welcome me to the Azores and make me feel like I could handle such a big move and lifestyle change. We met just playing with our kids at the park one day. She was pregnant with her daughter, Alexa, and Nathaniel was about 2 years old at the time.
Fast forward two years and here we are, invited to celebrate Nathaniel's 4th birthday. Sonia and her husband David invited us to come to the zoo with them for the afternoon and then join them back at the house for decorating and of course, eating cupcakes.
First stop: flamingos. These guys had really great color on them. We also got to see our first black swan, but I could not get a good picture.

Jackson and Max love to pose on any and all animal statues around the zoo.
Indian, also known as Asian, elephants. There were two, but I just got a good picture of one of them.
Trying to get in some pictures with my boys. This trip to the zoo happened at 36.5 weeks pregnant. Come on out Baby Clemens 3!!
Berrios Family on the cement hippos. Trying to capture a usable picture for their Christmas card:)
My guys starting to work on decorating their own cupcake creations. Jackson does not care for frosting, but the allure of decorating one using the spray out frosting won over. After he was all done, he handed me the cupcake and said, "I don't care for the frosting. Can I have a plain one?" So, I ate his and he ate a plain one. You know I really do have picky kids when one of them does not care for frosting.
The birthday boy!!
