Jackson turns 6 years old!!

6 Years...

Does not seem possible that all that time has passed since we brought our precious boy home.  I keep joking with him that I need to find a shrinking pill, and he just giggles and says, "No way mom!"  He is a sweet, sweet boy.  He is completely into Superheroes right now.  It all started with Batman, probably a couple years ago.  He was Batman for the first Halloween we were in the Azores.  He has since moved on to Superman, which probably came about sometime in the second year of our life in the Azores.  He received a Superman costume from Santa this past Christmas, which I think he wore every day for at least 6 months.  He says he would like it if it were not so hot in Hawaii so he could still wear his costume.

He seems to be showing many qualities of the introvert, much like his dad.  It takes him a while to warm up to people and he gets anxious when there is too much noise or too many kids running around in one place.  He and Max are participating in the Awana program (an all year Bible program for kids; super awesome program!) this year and the first week was a challenge for him, but he went back on weeks two and three and had a great time.  At home, he will dance and sing up a storm, but put him into a group and he goes stone cold silent and the look on his face would still a storm.

Mike and I decided a long time ago, after hearing this idea from a friend, that the boys could have a party when they turn 5 and 10 years old.  After having a huge first birthday party for Jackson and realizing that I am not the "big party" type of mom, we heard the 5 and 10 year idea and just thought, "Yes!" That could work for our family!  Max actually seemed to take it kind of hard that there was no party this year.  He kept asking when "the people" would be here.  We explained a few times that it was just going to be our little family celebrating for this birthday.  On the other hand, Jackson was just fine with the whole thing.  He just wanted to open his presents, lol.  And, eat his cake!

Jackson has wanted that particular set of Superheroes since his friends from the Azores, Isaac and Sidge, got them and Jackson fell in love with Wonder Woman.

He recently learned to swim underwater and he saw another kid with these kind of goggles.  He asked for them every day for at least a week.

The smaller version of Wonder Woman and her invisible jet to go with the Batcave the boys have.

Mike found some Batman/Aquaman/Mr. Freeze legos.  Legos are always a hit these days.

Jackson, a picky and particular eater, always just wants plain white or vanilla cake with white frosting.  I found some Superman decor at the cake store in the states and sent that to Hawaii for use on his cake.  The cake itself was actually a flop.  We all had a little piece, but I tried a new recipe and something went awry.  It was more like pound cake and seemed quite undercooked, although my toothpick came out clean:)  Oh well, that just meant there was not cake for days after the birthday at our house.

That day, we had also baked chocolate chip cookies, which Jackson had been asking to do since literally, the day we moved in.  So, he has had a sweet treat to sustain him through the week.

 I just love this kid!
